Whether you’re a beginner or have some experience on the court, the Junior Winter Club Competition is a fantastic opportunity to enhance your skills, grow as a team player, and enjoy the thrill of competitive basketball in a supportive and fun environment.

The Junior Winter Club Competition runs during Term 2 and Term 3 every year.

  1. Visit our Website or follow us on socials: Competition registrations, when opened, will be released on our website and social media. Look for the “Registration” or “Join Us” section on our website, or see the latest news. Here, you’ll find all the details about the registration process, including fees, age divisions, and any necessary forms.

  2. Create an Account: If you don’t already have one you will need create a user account as part of the signup. This account will be used for managing your registration and keeping you updated on upcoming events. If you already have an account, you should use the same email address as previously registered with to avoid any confusion.

  3. Complete Registration Form: Fill out the online registration form with accurate information. Be sure to select “Lakers” as your club.

  4. Payment: Pay the registration fee through the provided payment gateway. Follow the instructions to complete your payment securely.

  5. Confirmation: Once your registration is successfully submitted and payment is processed, you should receive a confirmation email. This email will include important information about your registration and any next steps.

The competition fee may vary slightly each year, dependant on competition costs and other factors. 

Every player will need to have multiple parts to their successful registration, including (1) Basketball NSW Annual Fee (2) Winter Competition Entry Fee.

Yes! At Lakers we understand the importance of playing with friends. We encourage players to have fun and create lasting memories on the court together. When you register your child for our programs, you can request to have them placed on the same team as their friends, subject to team availability and skill-level considerations. We’ll do our best to accommodate these requests to ensure a positive and enjoyable experience for all our young athletes. Just let us know your preferences during the registration process, and we’ll do our best to make it happen!

Unlike other sports such as Soccer, you MUST be UNDER the age you’re entering in that calendar year. For example, if your child is 14 years old – they cannot play in the Under 14’s competition, they must play in Under 16’s.

Under 10’s is for 8 & 9 Year olds
Under 12’s is for 10 & 11 Year olds
Under 14’s is for 12 & 13 Year olds
Under 16’s is for 14 & 15 Year olds
Under 18’s is for 16 & 17 Year olds

Yes, grading sessions are held in March or April each year at Newcastle Basketball Stadium, Broadmeadow. All players must attend, or advise by email of your absence to contact@lakersbasketball.com.au. An email will be sent to all registered players confirming dates and session times. Please also see our Website & Social Media for announcements. 

Yes. Training sessions are run by your teams coaches, and are held for 1 hour duration on a Sunday or a Monday afternoon. Each team will be allocated a time slot. When teams are organised you will be advised of the time allocated each week. Training sessions are held at Hunter Sports High School, Gateshead. Training typically commences in late April.

No worries at all! Getting into a team at Lakers is a breeze, even if you don’t know anyone. We have a welcoming and inclusive community that embraces players of all backgrounds and experience levels. Simply reach out to our friendly team, and we’ll help you find the perfect team that matches your skill level and preferences.

Following grading all players will receive an email notification of team details, including which Division your child has been placed into, their teammates, Coaches and Manager.

Where the available allocated places have been filled for an age/gender, registrations will then be allocated to the waitlist for a place in the competition.  At the time of registering you will be advised as to whether you are on the waitlist.

Players gear, including mandatory Jerseys and Shorts can be purchased from our Lakers website. AfterPay will be available to help ease the burden of this expense.

Each age group uses a different size ball, based on Basketball Australia’s recommendations.

Our favourite value ball is the Wilson Jet Pro, sold at Rebel Sport for around $40. The best overall ball is the Wilson Evo Nxt.
